The Elder’s House - Home for At-Risk Youth Receives Grant from Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation

The Elder's House (TEH) received a $10,000 grant from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation to help complete construction of this new home for at-risk teenage boys in Chesapeake.

Some teenage boys in Chesapeake in need of safe, stable housing will have a new place to call home this year. The Elder's House, a 5,000 square-foot residential care facility for local at-risk teenage boys, received a $10,000 grant from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, the charitable arm of Dominion Energy. These funds, combined with an earlier grant of $2,500, will go toward completing construction of the facility, which is scheduled to open in Spring 2018.

According to Keya Mitchell, program director, The Elder's House will have rooms for eight boys from ages 12-18 in a state-of-the-art facility. "They can stay until they are ready for college or trade school," she said. "We have a strong focus on education that includes STEM-based training to develop skills for future careers. The Elder's House will have a high-tech computer lab/study area to foster these skills. This generous grant from Dominion Energy will help us give these boys the best start in life."

Mitchell added that Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, known as The Mount, is also a big supporter of The Elder's House. "Our long-term goal is to have The Elder's House for teenage boys and girls in every city where The Mount is located," she said. For more information, visit TheEldersHouse.com.
